April 25 We're back!Hi everybody! We're back from Mazatlan and are just putting up a few pictures for you. We had the most wonderful and excellent vacation ever in our ocean front condo thanks to generous friends and our mileage plan. The view was incredible and the company was great =). The first day we took an island tour with Arnoldo with a gold tooth and party spirit. The second day we went body boarding again for the second and last time and spent some time at the hospital. The third day was my 34th birthday and Dallas's second day of only pureed soup through a straw. Disappointing when he knew there were all those good hot salsas out there. We went on a tour anyway the morning after his accident but he almost threw up on the bumpy ride home. We decided to take it quieter for the next couple days. That's when we took our walks on the beach and caught a couple movies. On Saturday, we hooked up with a mission group that was taking lunches to kids in the poorer area of Mazatlan and we have a couple short movies from there. They were a group from Ohio and all prayed for Dallas's back before we left. His back was messed up from the boarding accident. The kids were pretty incredible. In the poorest area, they were unabashedly mostly interested in any food or toys we had in our hands. In another area, we were told that most of the kids had single moms but they were hoping to raise up boys from their youth group who would stay with their families someday. Probably the most impacting moment for me was actually when the director told me maybe I shouldn't use the plastic netting bag the oranges came from to put the garbage in because the moms like to tear it into pieces and use them as dish rags to scrub their dishes. Then he offered it to one of the moms standing there and her face lit up like she had gotten a prize. That really got to me.
Let's see--what else? Well, we would highly recommend "Mazatlan Frank" as a tour guide and information source if anyone ever goes to Mazatlan. He was great. Our last couple days were just fun in the sun and packing up to go. We are choosing to forget the night spent on air mattresses in the San Francisco airport listening to someone speaking loudly in an undetermined language right next to our heads off and on all night. Also, if anyone else ever wants to spend the night in the SanFran airport, we would recommend getting the cleaning schedule for the bathrooms near you so you don't end up sleepwalking up and down escalators throughout the airport just to take a 3am potty break. That's all for now! |
